Robert A Balk
Robert A Balk, MD, is the J Bailey Carter, MD Professor of Medicine at Rush Medical College and the Director of the Division of Pulmonary
and Critical Care Medicine at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. He is also the Director of the Adult Cystic Fibrosis Program
and the Medical Director of the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program at Rush Oak Park Hospital. Dr Balk’s major clinical and research interest
has focused on understanding the pathogenesis and defining management strategies for patients with severe sepsis, septic shock, acute
respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), and multiple organ dysfunction syndrome. Dr Balk is a member of the editorial board for Clinical
Pulmonary Medicine, was an associate editor for the Yearbook of Critical Care Medicine from 1995 to 2012, and has authored over 100
original manuscripts and book chapters. He has received several honors including; election into the AOA Medical Honor Society, the Sirridge
Award For Clinical Excellence, the Alice Sach Award for Dedicated Service and Superior Individual Effort in the Area of Patient Care, The
Alfred Soffer Research Award from the American College of Chest Physicians, and the E Grey Dimond Take Wing Award from the University of
Missouri-Kansas City Medical School.
