You are invited to be part of a forum to bring respiratory research together, to discuss and build. Ours is a growing and vital discipline. The future of Respiratory Science lies in developing an integrative approach and fostering an environment where researchers can talk, listen and develop integrative projects on all aspects of respiration. Rather than focussing on specific organizational level, we aim to stimulate new research initiatives with a broad interdisciplinary approach.

A reaffirmation of the goals of "Respiratory Science" as a clear and distinct discipline will bring our research aims together, and allows not only the traditional horizontal networking but also vertical networking, breaking artificial barriers between genetics, cell biology, zoology, botany, medicine and many others. Therefore, this meeting is like no other that you have attended. The unique structure of this congress was greatly appreciated by our guests of 2006.

The mainstay of the ICRS is a series of symposia: those emphasizing integrative, multidisciplinary approaches will be granted preference. In addition, posters and open sessions with short Powerpoint presentations will take place. The Postersession will take place on one evening. When the symposium topics and speakers have been selected, registered participants will be asked which they would prefer to attend in order to minimize overlap of interests in parallel sessions.

This conference is intended to provide the continuing platform for future meetings and to ensure that Respiratory Science remains at the forefront of worldwide research. The conference will be held from the 9th to the 12th of August 2009 in Bonn/Bad Honnef a spectacular region along the Rhine Valley.
